Your own AI, at the desk

A new kind of user is arriving on the trading desk: the assistant people already use for everything else.

A new kind of user is arriving on the trading desk. Not a new hire, and not a new tool. It is the AI assistant people already use for everything else: Claude, ChatGPT, or an agent a company built for itself.

People write their emails with it, plan their trips with it, ask it to explain a contract. Of course they want it to help with work too.

One question instead of five tools

Here is what that looks like. Instead of opening five tools, a trader asks one question: “Which orders are waiting for a truck, and who is late paying?”

The assistant asks the tools. It finds three orders without transport in the back office. It checks the buyers in the credit tool. It comes back with one answer: three orders need a truck, and two of those buyers are paying late. And it shows where each part came from.

The trader didn’t log in anywhere, didn’t export anything, didn’t build a report. They asked a question the way they would ask a colleague.

Headless tools make it possible

This only works if the tools can be used without their screens. In our world that means MCP and APIs: a way for an assistant to talk to a tool directly, the way a person would through the interface.

All seven of our tools can work this way. We call it headless. The tool is still there, with its rules and its data. It just doesn’t need a person clicking through it to be useful.

Acting as you, not as itself

The important part is who the assistant is. When it works in our tools, it acts as the person who asked. It has their permissions, no more. It can only see what they can see.

And every call is logged. If someone asks later what the assistant did and why, the answer is there, step by step.

What stays the same

The rules don’t change because the user is an agent. It can read and propose. A person still approves anything that moves money or goes out in the company’s name.

I think this is where most of the next few years will happen. Not in new apps, but in the assistant people already trust, working safely inside the tools they already have. How Connect works.
