You don’t need a new ERP
For years, transformation meant replacing the system. AI makes the system you have better instead.
GeorgiSofiaFor years, “digital transformation” in the meat business meant one thing: replacing the ERP.
You know how that goes. A big budget. A consultant with a slide that shows the future. A project that was meant to take nine months and took twenty. And a team that spent a year learning a new system instead of selling meat, while the old one ran in parallel “just in case”.
Some of those projects worked. Many didn’t. Almost all of them hurt.
What AI changes
The new generation of tools doesn’t have to replace what you have. It can sit on top of it.
It reads your inbox and writes the order into the ERP you already use. It checks your coldstore system for stock. It fills in the documents your team already sends. Each system stays in charge of its own data. Nothing has to be moved, migrated or switched off.
That is a big deal. The hardest part of any change is not the software. It is asking forty people to learn new screens and new habits at the same time.
What it means in practice
- Live in weeks. The first change goes live without a migration. There is no “go-live weekend” where everyone holds their breath.
- The same screens. Your team keeps the systems it knows. The work just arrives more complete.
- Easy to undo. If a tool doesn’t earn its place, you switch it off. Nothing else breaks, because nothing else depended on it.
When a new system does make sense
I won’t pretend you never need a new system. Sometimes the old one really is at the end of its life. But that decision should come from a map of how your business works, not from the hope that new software will fix old habits.
In our experience, the best system is usually the one your team already knows how to use. Make it better. Don’t throw it away.
